Natural Gas Leaks

If you suspect a natural gas leak, leave the area immediately and call our 24-hour alarm service at 254-559-7857.

How to know

Smell

In its natural state, natural gas is odorless and tasteless. But because it's also flammable, and sometimes toxic, a distinctive sulfur or "rotten egg" smell is added to the gas.

Look and listen

You may also see or hear signs of a gas leak, including:

  • Bubbles rising in a puddle or other pool of liquid

  • Dust or dirt blowing from a hole in the ground

  • Dead or dying vegetation in unexpected locations

  • Hissing (small perforation) or roaring (large break)

What to do

If you suspect a natural gas leak:

  • Leave the area immediately.

  • Call our 24-hour alarm service at 254-559-7857 to provide location and other details about the suspected leak.

  • Don't do anything that might create a spark.

We will immediately dispatch a technician to check that your area is safe and stop any leaks that may be present.
